A PROFILE OF GORRAN CRICKET CLUB
Come and join us for the 2012 Season...
Gorran Cricket Club is seeking to attract first team standard players to the Club for the 2012 season. The Club runs two sides in the Cornwall
Cricket League and encourages its younger members (including girls) with
teams at under 11, under 13 and under 15 age levels. The first XI are
currently members of County Division 1 whilst the 2nd XI are playing in
Division 4 (East).
Gorran Cricket Club can be proud of its history. Gorran have, three times,
been County Champions and on six occasions Gorran headed the Eastern Section
before the amalgamation of the East and West at the top levels. As recently
as 2000, both teams won the championships of their divisions. Gorran have
won the Hawkey Cup on no less than nine occasions and the Edwards Cup once.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Gorran's ground enjoys
splendid panoramic views of the countryside with distant and spectacular
scenes of the clay country and glimpses of St.Austell bay. The club enjoys
consistantly high marks for the quality of its wicket preparation and its
square together with praise for the conditition of its outfield. The Club is
amongst the best equipped in the Cornwall Cricket League; its pavilion is
modern; and the recently acquired additional ground serves for practice and
youth cricket during the week whilst providing a generous parking area on
match days.
The Club's vibrant Youth policy is amongst the best in the Cornwall League.
The club has been awarded a Sport England ECB Clubmark certificate for its
junior cricket. The Club provides qualified coaches who work hard throughout
each season to provide teaching, practice, matches and encouragement in the
game for over 60 players - both boys and girls - whos ages range from 6 to
15.
The present adult playing strength includes a mixture of experienced
cricketers with young and talented players who show excellent promise. Over the last few years we have developed links with Clubs in New Zealand and South Africa and have brought talented players from these clubs to play for Gorran. This has given our younger players the chance to learn from these expierienced overseas players.
The Club is committed to giving young players ample opportunities and
encouragement.
An addition of a small number of keen players - young cricketers and
experienced players - who wish to enjoy their cricket at Division One level will be made welcome in our friendly and hospitable Club. The Club will also welcome younger members to join in with the Youth Section.
For the rest of the family who may want to relax away from the cricket
field, the beaches of Gorran Haven, Vault, Caerhays and Hemmick are all only
a short distance from the ground. The former being only five minutes' drive
away. Gorran's ground is just less than ten miles from the Penwinnick
Roundabout, St.Austell, (near the Texaco filing station at the junction
leading to Mevagissey). The route to the ground passes the Lost Gardens of
Heligan on the way.
